Purple flowers don’t immediately come to mind as a favorite but their color fills most late summer gardens. Any florist or gardener who has seen a few seasons through, knows this truth. The end of summer brings bursts of aubergine, purple, gold, and deep pink flowers. The sweet peas below, were saved from the compost and the cosmos were bound for the pile as well. Notes for next year’s garden and arrangements: dark dahlias, late sown cosmos and sweet peas, rudebeckia, deep pink zinnias, and purple, nearly dried hydrangea make glorious late summer arrangements.

So beautiful. I’m always touched by fall flowers – they seem to want to console us that there’s still time to bask in the afterglow of summer.
