Persuasion

Last night kicked off the Jane Austen series on Masterpiece Theater. For the next few weeks, they will be showing BBC adaptations of every Jane Austen novel. Some of them are new productions, like last night’s showing of Persuasion. It was excellent. Any one else watching? See schedule here.

  1. I LOVED last night’s show. Glad I have TiVo so I can watch it again. I am looking forward to Northanger Abbey next week. If for no other reason than I have no idea what it is about.

  2. I was really looking forward to this because Persuasion is one of my favorites (ok, they all are), but I have to admit that I was disappointed. It felt so rushed and so much of the delicacy and nuance was cut out. The version with Amanda Root is much, much better.

  3. I adore Jane Austen and wish I could see those films… PERSUASION is the only of her novels I haven’t read because I am saving it for some special occasion, when I need a 100%-guaranteed good read. Incidentally, I’m starting a new blog about Paris, fashion, art, design, etc and was wondering if you’d consider exchanging linsks? You can check it out at

  4. OMG I caught it from middle to end. I am such a Jane Austen freak! I LOVE masterpiece theatre. You better believe I am catching all of the Jane Austen screen adaptations. Hmmm maybe I’ll take a trip to the video store and gets some Keira Knightley in the mix. Thanks for the sched!!!!

  5. I was a little disappointed with this Persuasion adaptation, it felt awkward to me. I think I like the previous one better. Also the kiss at the end had me wincing, it was really bad!

But I have to say Capt. Wentworth was dang attractive!

  6. So excited to have internet again and to have read this post just in time. For me, in Austin, this airs tomorrow. I think my VCR is going to be getting a workout for the next few months.
