time to plant bulbs!

Muscari

I once had a landscaping  job where my assignment for a day was to plant 16,000 Muscari bulbs in a forest. My back hurt but it was loads of fun! Don't forget to plant your spring bulbs now! I don't have a garden but I am looking forward to planting pots of Paperwhites in a few weeks. I can never get enough of them. How about you, do you like their overwhelmingly strong smell?

  1. I’m so glad you mentioned paper whites, because I need to plant some, but I’m never sure when I need to do it. If I want paper whites and amaryllis for my New Year’s Eve party, when should I plant them? Thanks!!

  2. I had a landscaping/flower arranging job one summer and I never knew how wonderful it can be to spend the day bent over, hands and face covered in mulch, building beautiful yards out of flowers and trees. As soon as we get a house with a yard, you bet I’m going to be planting away!

  3. What a job that must have been 🙂 I think martha stewart showcased her tulip bed on her property this past spring. Hundreds upon thousands of tulip bulbs, all beautifully golden!

Thanks for the reminder about the paper whites. I’m determined to do that this year 🙂

  4. I just planted my allium, tulip, hyacinth and crocus bulbs the other day! My first official bulb plantings so I’m excited for spring. 🙂

  5. oh thank you so much for the reminder! I totally forgot. I am going to plant my tulip bulbs that have been taking up space in my freezer, thanks chelsea! x

  6. Aren’t paperwhites so lovely? i plant lots of them in glass and crystal bowls over Thanksgiving weekend, more a few weeks later and then more again . . . so I’ll have some blooming right on through the new year. It also makes a festive little favor to put a few bulbs plus pebbles in a cellophane bag, tied with a gauzy white bow. Simple is best. 🙂

  7. I don’t love the smell but I just love forcing them in the winter on my windowsill. I had a nice suprise this weekend, I had planted my forced indoor bulbs from last year in the back yard and now they are growing. They look great. So don’t throw out your bulbs when your done with them this year.
