For the past 20 years or so, I’ve been obsessed with wooden windows. I love old houses and when they are not taken care of or inappropriately remodeled, my heart hurts. Yesterday, my dad sent me the link to The Wooden Window and Door Company in Nova Scotia. On their website they say, " Putting vinyl windows on your old home will destroy it’s soul." That is always what I’ve believed. Hop on over to see their beautiful craftsmanship.
The house I grew up in had the most incredible windows. They were big, and took up most of the wall space. Not only were they true divided light, but the panes were old, hand-rolled glass so when you look out of them, it was a little like looking through water. Gosh I loved those windows.
i completely agree with you (& your dad)…i always find it amazing that people will pour tons of money into a home remodel, only to install cheap windows. sigh.
xo
I am so with you on this. Our house is over 200 years old but our windows (while they look great and work wonderfully) are vinyl. I’m so happy to hear that you love old homes!! 🙂
