Lilacs make me really, really crazy. Truly, I am obsessed. Ever since I moved to Portland, I’ve wanted to visit the Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens. And since I am wedding-free this year I’ve been determined to visit and catch the fleeting beauties in their short three week window of bloom-time. So, Saturday I coerced Ansley and Sara into going. Here’s the little hodge podgy house on the lilac strewn property. While we were there, Sara was snapping away with her camera while I had my face buried in every single blossom until my throat hurt. I think this view she caught captured the mood perfectly. It was a little attic bedroom over looking the gardens. On another note, I just got back from the grocery store where I was seduced (went way over budget) by the first peonies of springtime (white with a deep dark throat and oh so fragrant). My lilacs are starting to fade so guess what? As difficult as it is, I am moving on to Peonies. It just feels right.
peonies are my favorite! i hope to see them at the farmers’ market this saturday. i’d love to get some lilac though too…
Sounds like a wonderful day!
Too bad the lilac festival ends this weekend – I will make a note in my calender for next year – I want to see this place! Thanks for the post.
