Last weekend I took a two day Weaving in the Wild class at Wildcraft in White Salmon, which is located in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge. I am not super crafty- I like mediums like flowers and photography that provide that instant gratification- so this was more of an excuse to hang out with girlfriends (Jenny, Jennifer, and Saikiko) in an inspirating setting and get away from Portland for a weekend. The first day of the course we went foraging for materials to make a free-form weaving and also for berries to dye some yarn. The second day, we learned the rules for weaving and got our own little looms to practice on. We also learned how to use the big looms! Chelsea, the owner, served us an amazing vegetarian lunch on the most inspiring table setting (filled with vintage marimekko plates and textiles). A few of the salads were made with veggies from her garden. The meals alone were worth the trek! I liked that they taught us the rules and then encouraged us to be as detail oriented or as free-form as we wanted. We got to take our own handmade looms home with some natural dyed yarn and the sweetest, hand-illustrated booklet. This class was so totally worth it! Thank you to our wonderful teacher, Jorie and her lovely interns for teaching!
