christmas markets

Stockholm
Stockolm-christmas-market Gamla stan

My sister just brought me back an ornament from the Christmas market she went to in Germany last month. She's always telling me about the great holiday markets in Europe. I am dying over this wreath stall in Gamla Stan (the old town of Stockholm)! Have a looksie at my Flickr favorites for more Christmas Markets and also some Nordic inspiration.

I am finally feeling festive and even listening to Christmas music which I don't usually like though I've found that classical music is really quite nice this time of year.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

  1. I dated a German guy for years and spent the holidays in Germany many times. I don’t miss him, but I totally miss the xmas markets! I keep trying to convince K that we should move there! Or….Paris….

  2. Oh, Ive been wanting to visit them for years. They sound so magical.
Vancouver has a “German style” Christmas market this year. I havent checked it out yet though.
I doubt it’s anything like the real thing.

  3. I just returned from a half year abroad and was only able to catch a Christmas market in London before I had to return to the States, totally different from these but still very cute. I wish more Americans embraced the market idea over the strip mall one. That being said I have been to some cute markets/fairs in the USA too. We shouldn’t sell ourselves too short.

  4. When I lived in Chicago, we went each year to the Christkindlmarkt in Daley Plaza. There were wonderful little booths filled with wares, and we’d eat potato pancakes with hot drinks, and stop by the giant Christmas tree. It’s really nice.

  5. Aw, such good memories of the Christmas market in Brussels. My brother and I went ice skating in the square among all the twinkling lights – so lovely!
P.S. Just discovered the best x-mas album: “The Cherry Tree” by the Anonymous 4. It’s full of medieval English carols. Awesome.

  6. I love christmas markets! Drinking Gluehwein with friends, snowfall, the magical lights of a cathedral close by, the smell of almonds… Great!

  7. My first Christmas Market experience was in Zurich a few years ago and I fell in love. Since then, they’ve opened one in Union Square Park here in NYC!
