{maine}

I am going to Maine in September. I’ll be heading to Portland for a few days and then near Rockland to meet up with some family. I haven’t been to Maine as an adult. Blueprint  magazine and Decor8 both had some fun guides for design in Portland. Does anyone else have ideas or favorites for those parts of Maine?  I like eating and checking out local stops (shops, music, outdoors). Thanks!!

  1. I got lost in Maine a few years ago and ended up at this cool old fort that was really fun to explore. But I couldn’t tell you where it is because I don’t know how I found it. It is fun to just drive along the coastline. I think there is a highway that is just above the rocks and you can pretty much drive for hundreds of miles staring at the ocean. Makes it a tad dangerous, though, for the driver. Have a good time!

  2. My husband and I went to Maine for our honeymoon. We spent most of our time in Bar Harbor, but also went to Rockland and Camden. Camden and Bar Harbor have great little shops and restaurants. Enjoy your trip! Eat blueberries!

  3. Portland Eating:
    Mim’s on Commercial Street: roofdeck, great brunch and dinner, great spot for a drink at night
    Fore Street: my favorite restaurant ever. Reservations a month or so in advance but if you go at 5 you can put your name on the list. Or eat at the bar.
    Street and Co.: rarely reviewed because the owner (who also co-owns Fore Street) likes to keep it quiet, so doesn’t cater to tourists. Amazing seafood, terrific atmosphere, on Wharf Street
    American Flatbread: awesome pizza, great spot
    If I think of others I’ll shoot you an email.
